If the 23,000-square-foot Blaine Mansion on Massachusetts Avenue sells for its asking price, it would go down as the most expensive real estate transaction transaction in the city, according to listing agent Daniel Heider, of TTR Sotheby's International Realty.

The home was listed last May, although an attached condo was listed for $2.2M last March, according to the Washington Post.

The home was purchased by former diplomat John R. Phillips, and his wife Linda Douglass, a former Obama aide, in 2006. According to the listing, the property blends residential and commercial opportunities.

"A last-of-its-kind Gilded Age 7,000-square-foot mansion residence complements over 14,000 square feet of versatile income-generating commercial space within a stunning structure brimming with historical significance," the listing reads.

"An opportunity like this rarely, if ever, presents itself. Approaching the grand porte-cochere over the original cobblestone driveway, one is given a glimpse into the world of James G.Blaine, and the extravagant lives of Washington's high society in the 19th century, when DuPont Circle served as the exclusive meeting point for all the city's power players."

The four-bedroom, seven-bathroom home features a private elevator, gentleman's library with views of DuPont Circle park, modernized and renovated kitchen, a private outdoor terrace with a swimming pool, and more.
